A day on the playground

It was all work and no play on the Watts Elementary School playground in Charleston, WV Saturday. CRA volunteers helped students, parents, teachers, community groups and the new school principal, Kelly Haynes, clean up the school grounds and playground. Trash was picked up, fresh mulch was spread and all of the playground equipment, railings and signage, received a fresh coat of bright blue paint.

Haynes was appreciative to all the volunteers, not just for their hard work but for the lessons being taught to the children.

“I want to bring the community into the school and let the kids get into the community and work hard, learn from them,” Haynes said. “We want our students at Watts Elementary to be leaders in the community. That's what we're going to push for this year.”

With this event, the students are off to a good start. Read more about the effort on the WSAZ Web site.
